THE END
Locations | Premise | Keys | Full Nav

There is no escape.

Or is there?

The final ritual has passed. The house is quiet, for now. Hallways point where they should. Doors open to rooms you expect. Even the windows show consistent scenes. But the house cannot be sated so easily, can it? Why is it so quiet?

It’s as if there is a waiting in the walls; a held breath waiting for release. Someone, or something, is holding this all together.

Someone is waiting for you.

Will you go to meet them?

This is the final log for The Locked Place. All end-of-game events will take place here.

As always, feel free to ask questions on plurk or the discord.

MINGLE LOG | WEEK 4
Locations | Rooming | Full Nav

Another week gone, and with it, two of your number. Only eleven of you remain alive. And still, there is no escape. Or is there?

This week, something has changed. Something is different. Beginning Sunday, Pratibha is gone, and cannot be found or located at all. After Sunday's puzzle is solved, and the attic opened to you, you will see why. But what has happened? How has this happened? And why is the only other object there a strange mirror? Perhaps you should investigate.

On Monday morning, your motive quickly becomes apparent. Will you isolate yourself? Will you risk being around others? The choice, as ever, is yours.

On Tuesday, the week's second puzzle becomes available, and with its solving, the game room. If you wanted another way to unwind from all the stress, pressure, and uncertainty, at least there's this?

Come Wednesday, you may realize that at last you have full run of the house. Every room is available to you now. Nevertheless, you cannot run from the messages, which come thicker and faster than ever.

On Thursday, you may wish to visit the greenhouse. There is nothing there for you--including no mysterious messages, from the dead or otherwise. Should you wish for a reprieve, the greenhouse will grant it to you. That is, at least until curfew. Should you remain out of your room past that time, the messages will return, and they will be utterly inescapable no matter where you go--or if you are alone.

Friday is investigation time once again. The investigation post will go live at 3 PM EST, 5/30.

Saturday is the day of your fourth real ritual. The ritual post will go live at 12 PM EST, 6/1.

MINGLE LOG | WEEK 3
Locations | Rooming | Full Nav

Another week gone, and with it, two of your number. Nine of you--or ten, depending on whom you count as yours--are dead. And still, there is no escape.

Pratibha won't turn up on her own this week, but you may be able to reach her if you try. For some reason, she seems particularly scarce every day but Thursday.

Sunday arrives this time with no mysteriously provided gifts, but if you gather together anyway, perhaps you'll find your spirits lifted by a sense of presence?

[cw: hallucinations]
On Monday morning, the house's next attempt to force you all to murder is not necessarily immediately apparent. As the day creeps on, you might catch a flicker of something from the corner of your eye, or hear a murmur when you're sure you're alone. Maybe Anemone was right to worry about losing your minds.

((Mod note: If you don't want to play with this particular motive, let us know! Like Week 1's blot motive, we've provided temporary IC outs in the motive announcement under Monday's header, and you should ALWAYS choose OOCly not to engage with something that isn't right for you, for whatever reason.))

Whatever your mental state, the house's dread ritual continues on. Those solving Tuesday's puzzle will actually find they have a couple days to complete it; once they find all the clues, they're welcome to ask their fellow living housemates for help actually making use of them. Solving the puzzle completely earns you the key to an indoor pool, though the stiff cover over the jacuzzi remains locked tight.

Pool party on Wednesday, anyone? No? It's fine; the day is yours to do with what you will.

Starting Thursday's puzzle requires that all parts of Tuesday's be completed, and once you're done, you can have yourselves a cozy, lovely dinner party. If you're up to it, anyway. If not, you'll also have the key to that jacuzzi, so soak those troubles away with hot water and jets.

Friday is investigation time once again. The investigation post will go live at 3 PM EST, 5/23.

Saturday is the day of your third real ritual. You may find the ritual post here at 12 PM EST, 5/24.

MINGLE LOG | WEEK 2
Locations | Rooming | Full Nav

Greetings, house guests. Surely you're getting into the swing of things, by now? Though, a friendly reminder: there is no escape.

Sunday is, once again, a quiet and likely somber day. At least, until there's one hopefully welcome surprise: belongings from back home that you may have missed will be delivered to your rooms today, if you did not come in with them. (Note: these should be the personal items from your applications, if your characters don't already have them on hand. The dead's personal items WILL NOT be appearing.)

Iris, Shauna, and anyone else in the house who might be considered a mother will also find a red carnation in a small vase by their bedsides. Enjoy these small creature comforts. You have earned them.

(Don't forget to check out the post-trial afterparty!)

Come Monday, everyone will once again wake up to a most unpleasant surprise: their motive for the week. This one is more immediately apparent than the last; the house's hunger has not been sated.

Pratibha is, once again, nowhere to be found, but this time, she's absent every day this week. What's up with that? (Should you feel strongly about this, you may attempt to find her.)

Bucking tradition, this week's first puzzle also arrives on Monday; it unlocks, of all things, a huge wardrobe full of fancy clothes. What could all this be for?

On Tuesday, the second puzzle appears; and it unlocks, this time, a grand ballroom.

On Wednesday, it will become clear what this week's locations are for. Because the ballroom doors open by themselves at 6 PM sharp, and reveal:

A ball. Splendid and scintillating, this gracefully lit space is warmed by the sound of distant music that has no apparent source. There are tables for food and drink, and more tables besides at which to sit. The star, however, is the dance floor; are you feeling brave enough to step out there? More importantly: with whom as your partner?

The windows display only endless green forest before night falls. Twilight and rising darkness paint the ballroom in shadows and shades of gold. All of it is enchanting and lovely to behold. The ballroom even sports numerous little nooks for ... privacy.

Remember, above all, rule 5: Get to know each other. Become friends. Become more. Who cares. Just do it.

Thursday brings calm after the busy storm of the ball. Rest, recuperate, and reflect; you all know what tomorrow brings.

Friday is investigation time once again. The investigation post will go live at 3 PM EST, 5/16.

Saturday is the day of your second real ritual. You may find the ritual post here at 12 PM EST, 5/17.

MINGLE LOG | WEEK 1
Premise | Rooming | Full Nav

Greetings, house guests. You must be a little more familiar with how things work around here now. There is no escape.

One thing does seem to have changed: characters can now freely investigate the now unlocked Crypt.

On Sunday, nothing much at all happens. Better take the time to rest, recuperate, and decide your next steps. Maybe you have people you want to talk to after that … shit show? Now’s the time: unload those feelings.

Alternatively, with the pantry open with plenty of food available, why not wander into the kitchen for a snack and a chat with whoever is there?

(Don't forget to check out the post-trial afterparty!)

Come Monday, everyone will make up to a most unpleasant surprise: their motive for the week.

Unfortunately for those characters with questions about the motive, Pratibha is nowhere to be found afterwards. Additionally, all the profile entries for Leona, Phoenix, and Yoojin have changed. It’s a fairly clear indicator that they are dead. Enjoy this useful information!

On Tuesday, there are two noticeable changes. The first is that there is a new puzzle. The second thing? Pratibha’s presence. She's finally back. Why was she missing on Sunday and Monday? Why does she seem so … out of it? She’s all curled up in the laundry room this time, intermittently snoozing in the little nook off to one side.

On Wednesday, Pratibha is gone again. And so, unfortunately, is one of your own. What happened? Who is it? All subsequent headers, including Wednesday's, will be frozen until a Wednesday event can take place. We will announce to the playerbase once Wednesday's thread is live for you to investigate!

Thursday brings a very specific change: after 9 PM, no one get into, or out of, your rooms. Plan wisely. You may get stuck in the halls, which might be fine … except we know what happened last Thursday night.

Thursday also brings with it another new puzzle.

Friday is investigation time The investigation post will go live at 3 PM EST, 5/9.

Saturday is the day of your “first” real ritual. You may find the ritual post here at 12 PM EST, 5/10.

MINGLE LOG | WEEK 0
Premise | Rooming | Full Nav

Welcome, guests, to your new home. It has no true name, but you may call it The Locked Place. All doors that lead outside are locked; all windows are the same. Thinking you may try force? Try, try as hard as you can, but you cannot shatter a window; you cannot break the handle of a door. You are well and truly trapped here.

On this lovely Wednesday, why not get to know your fellow guests?

  1. You wake up in whatever state you arrived in, be that hale and hearty or ... less so. You will not find medical supplies immediately available, so you will have to make do, for now. You will wake up in one of two places: in bed in your room, or sitting at the dining table. Why not speak to your roomies, or fellow ... dining guests? and get to know them? Or question them, as it were. What if they're the reason you're here, after all?

  2. Shortly after waking, you will happen across two items: your room key, and your journal. The former is in your pocket; don’t worry how it got there. Just don’t lose it. The journal’s cover is blank, but you can somehow sense that it is yours. Keep it close. It comes with one pen; do not lose it, as you may not find another. Opening it will greet you to two important pieces of information: the very first page contains the rules, and the subsequent few pages contain the profiles, pictures and all. Past that, the journal is filled with entirely blank pages; it seems as if you may do as you wish with the blank space that remains to you. Use it wisely. (For Snake only, this item will be a laptop, with a basic Word processor acting as the journal itself. It will open to already contain all the above information, as well as room to write. A screen reader is available, and will describe both text and images.)

  3. Should you get up to explore, you won't ... find much. The grand foyer is spacious, and lined with oddly crooked paintings. The bedrooms are dim affairs, located on the second floor of the manor; each has a plaque fixed to the door with the names of its occupants. How convenient! Within, you’ll find there is a bunk bed and a pull-out couch in each room, so you’ll have to decide amongst yourselves who sleeps where—especially if your room has four people. The bedrooms also have wardrobes, with just enough clothing for about a week's worth of wear for each character, including underthings and, strangely, a swimsuit. The kitchen is spacious, possessed of every cooking implement and appliance you could want. However, the pantry is locked. There is no food immediately accessible to the characters on Wednesday. Also available are the dining room, which seats ten; the laundry room, with two washers and dryers each; and the greenhouse, which affords the clearest and most spectacular views of the countryside--no, forest--no, plain--no... well, of whatever is outside.

  4. In the greenhouse is a girl. Perhaps you should talk with her.

On Thursday, some things will change:

  1. The pantry is now open. You may make food. Rejoice!

  2. With the opening of the pantry came a key, and a clue. Someone ought to hold onto both of those, come to think of it...

  3. Have you noticed it yet? That hallway is too long. This hallway is full of too many doors. That hallway has no doors at all. These stairs just lead to the ceiling. How on earth did you circle back to the foyer after going upstairs? What is that distant creaking, crackling sound? Did a door just slam behind you? Is this house ... haunted?

  4. Today, the mysterious girl--who you may know by now as Pratibha--is sitting in the laundry room, reading a book. It is not a journal; it is an actual book. Where on earth did she get it?

  5. At 8:50 PM on the dot, the lights all throughout the house will flicker steadily, the way the lights might dim before the beginning of a theater performance. At 8:55, they will flicker again. At 9:00 PM, all the bedroom doors will shut and lock, unable to be opened except by those with the correct key. Where you are at that time is your own prerogative, of course...

Come Friday, something feels different in the house. Changed. Empty. One of your own is dead, and today is your day to investigate. On the investigation post, you and up to two other characters may select a room to investigate. Don't worry if you don't get a room; there will be more chances (and more rooms) in the future. You may also choose to question Pratibha, who will be sitting in someone's bedroom staring out the window. The investigation post will go live at 3 PM EST, 5/2.

Saturday is the day of your first ritual. You may find the ritual post here at 12 PM EST, 5/3.
