THE END
Locations | Premise | Keys | Full Nav

There is no escape.

Or is there?

The final ritual has passed. The house is quiet, for now. Hallways point where they should. Doors open to rooms you expect. Even the windows show consistent scenes. But the house cannot be sated so easily, can it? Why is it so quiet?

It’s as if there is a waiting in the walls; a held breath waiting for release. Someone, or something, is holding this all together.

Someone is waiting for you.

Will you go to meet them?

This is the final log for The Locked Place. All end-of-game events will take place here.

As always, feel free to ask questions on plurk or the discord.

[ What was that?

What did they see happen?

Whatever it was, it wasn’t enough to save Leon. Which means that Lortel has only herself and Otto for the usual afterparty crew. And her boyfriend, if she press-gangs him, which she will.

She and Aqua leave the crypt together, and don’t immediately return.

But it’s not too long before she’s getting everything ready, hair tied back in a sensible ponytail as she readies the dining room. She doesn’t know how to cook, but Otto does, and even if he doesn’t feel like it, that’s too bad, because she’s going to encourage him.

They have so little left, and so much of that is simply each other. Why else do this? Why bother?

I’ll tell you all about it when I see you again. )

TRIAL

Full Nav

Today, the house feels quiet. There’s a somber air in the hallways, which don’t twist and turn as usual. In fact, no matter where you intend to go, your steps will take you to only one place: an ornate door, beyond which are dimly lit steps stretching down, down, into…

The Crypt.

Up beside the altar is the chest from yesterday’s investigation, now unlocked and full of all the evidence everyone gathered the day before. The Crypt itself is lit with flickering lights and deep shadows; eternally burning torches line the walls in their sconces.

Pratibha, just as yesterday, is not here. The evidence chest, however, is, and a pile of soft blankets lays behind it. Just in case.

Welcome to your fifth and final trial! You know the drill by now. If there are any questions, ask on plurk or on the discord.

INVESTIGATION
Premise | Rules | Locations

The house is quiet once again. The words, and your many attempts to erase them, are gone; the walls are as clean as if the words had never been. As always, the layout of the house is a little more straightforward today; after all, it’s fed well.

Pratibha is ... not in the foyer, of course. It yawns with her absence, too empty and too still. The evidence chest is there, already open.

You can imagine what she'd say, can't you?

Don't look at me. Get to it.

It's time for your fifth, and final, investigation! As a reminder, if your character decides to investigate a location, put the name of your location in your subject line. Once enough people have joined you (there'll now be one to two people to a room), mod replies will come in. Anything to be discovered will be found during the course of the thread; we will indicate when an area has been fully searched.

After the body has been found, you're free to spend the rest of Friday however you like. If there are any questions, ask on plurk or on the discord!

MINGLE LOG | WEEK 4
Locations | Rooming | Full Nav

Another week gone, and with it, two of your number. Only eleven of you remain alive. And still, there is no escape. Or is there?

This week, something has changed. Something is different. Beginning Sunday, Pratibha is gone, and cannot be found or located at all. After Sunday's puzzle is solved, and the attic opened to you, you will see why. But what has happened? How has this happened? And why is the only other object there a strange mirror? Perhaps you should investigate.

On Monday morning, your motive quickly becomes apparent. Will you isolate yourself? Will you risk being around others? The choice, as ever, is yours.

On Tuesday, the week's second puzzle becomes available, and with its solving, the game room. If you wanted another way to unwind from all the stress, pressure, and uncertainty, at least there's this?

Come Wednesday, you may realize that at last you have full run of the house. Every room is available to you now. Nevertheless, you cannot run from the messages, which come thicker and faster than ever.

On Thursday, you may wish to visit the greenhouse. There is nothing there for you--including no mysterious messages, from the dead or otherwise. Should you wish for a reprieve, the greenhouse will grant it to you. That is, at least until curfew. Should you remain out of your room past that time, the messages will return, and they will be utterly inescapable no matter where you go--or if you are alone.

Friday is investigation time once again. The investigation post will go live at 3 PM EST, 5/30.

Saturday is the day of your fourth real ritual. The ritual post will go live at 12 PM EST, 6/1.

[After the execution, Luis heads back upstairs and to the kitchen.

They only need one extra chair to all fit in the dining room, now.

He recruits the usual suspects - Leon gets tagged to play sheepdog and drag in an extra chair, Otto to help make the food (and the tea, which he volunteers himself for, probably to avoid Luis' piss-poor brewing if Luis had to guess), and Lortel helps with food prep and setting the table. He's pleasantly surprised when the bustle draws Anemone to help as well, and sets her to the easy work of pulling together an easy soup using up the leftover bread from the dinner party.]

“Ritual four. I’ll be here. … there’s some blankets behind the altar for whenever you weirdos get naked.”

The house is quiet once again. Gone are the voices, the visions, the troubling whispers and deep footsteps from out of sight. As always, the layout of the house is a little more straightforward today; after all, it’s fed well.

Pratibha is once again in the foyer, looking a little bummed, but nothing especially new or noteworthy. She’s sitting on the floor with her back to the evidence chest, tapping her toes idly.

“This won’t be any less rough. It just gets harder from here..” She eyes them all, then leans back against the chest and shuts her eyes. “I’m here if you need me.”

It's time for your fourth investigation! As a reminder, if your character decides to investigate a location, put the name of your location in your subject line. MINGLE LOG | WEEK 3
Locations | Rooming | Full Nav

Another week gone, and with it, two of your number. Nine of you--or ten, depending on whom you count as yours--are dead. And still, there is no escape.

Pratibha won't turn up on her own this week, but you may be able to reach her if you try. For some reason, she seems particularly scarce every day but Thursday.

Sunday arrives this time with no mysteriously provided gifts, but if you gather together anyway, perhaps you'll find your spirits lifted by a sense of presence?

[cw: hallucinations]
On Monday morning, the house's next attempt to force you all to murder is not necessarily immediately apparent. As the day creeps on, you might catch a flicker of something from the corner of your eye, or hear a murmur when you're sure you're alone. Maybe Anemone was right to worry about losing your minds.

((Mod note: If you don't want to play with this particular motive, let us know! Like Week 1's blot motive, we've provided temporary IC outs in the motive announcement under Monday's header, and you should ALWAYS choose OOCly not to engage with something that isn't right for you, for whatever reason.))

Whatever your mental state, the house's dread ritual continues on. Those solving Tuesday's puzzle will actually find they have a couple days to complete it; once they find all the clues, they're welcome to ask their fellow living housemates for help actually making use of them. Solving the puzzle completely earns you the key to an indoor pool, though the stiff cover over the jacuzzi remains locked tight.

Pool party on Wednesday, anyone? No? It's fine; the day is yours to do with what you will.

Starting Thursday's puzzle requires that all parts of Tuesday's be completed, and once you're done, you can have yourselves a cozy, lovely dinner party. If you're up to it, anyway. If not, you'll also have the key to that jacuzzi, so soak those troubles away with hot water and jets.

Friday is investigation time once again. The investigation post will go live at 3 PM EST, 5/23.

Saturday is the day of your third real ritual. You may find the ritual post here at 12 PM EST, 5/24.

[Luis feels Yuri's absence keenly as he sets up the meeting, and as a result there's a morbid tone to the preparations that wasn't present the last time he set it up.

But! He has things he has to share, and if they don't start Organizing then they're going to fall apart. He's more aware of that than ever, with these last two deaths.

The dining room is set up again, with a selection of easily eaten snacks, and only a few extra chairs needed now (thanks again, Leon "the S stands for Strong" Kennedy for the assist on that).]

MINGLE LOG | WEEK 2
Locations | Rooming | Full Nav

Greetings, house guests. Surely you're getting into the swing of things, by now? Though, a friendly reminder: there is no escape.

Sunday is, once again, a quiet and likely somber day. At least, until there's one hopefully welcome surprise: belongings from back home that you may have missed will be delivered to your rooms today, if you did not come in with them. (Note: these should be the personal items from your applications, if your characters don't already have them on hand. The dead's personal items WILL NOT be appearing.)

Iris, Shauna, and anyone else in the house who might be considered a mother will also find a red carnation in a small vase by their bedsides. Enjoy these small creature comforts. You have earned them.

(Don't forget to check out the post-trial afterparty!)

Come Monday, everyone will once again wake up to a most unpleasant surprise: their motive for the week. This one is more immediately apparent than the last; the house's hunger has not been sated.

Pratibha is, once again, nowhere to be found, but this time, she's absent every day this week. What's up with that? (Should you feel strongly about this, you may attempt to find her.)

Bucking tradition, this week's first puzzle also arrives on Monday; it unlocks, of all things, a huge wardrobe full of fancy clothes. What could all this be for?

On Tuesday, the second puzzle appears; and it unlocks, this time, a grand ballroom.

On Wednesday, it will become clear what this week's locations are for. Because the ballroom doors open by themselves at 6 PM sharp, and reveal:

A ball. Splendid and scintillating, this gracefully lit space is warmed by the sound of distant music that has no apparent source. There are tables for food and drink, and more tables besides at which to sit. The star, however, is the dance floor; are you feeling brave enough to step out there? More importantly: with whom as your partner?

The windows display only endless green forest before night falls. Twilight and rising darkness paint the ballroom in shadows and shades of gold. All of it is enchanting and lovely to behold. The ballroom even sports numerous little nooks for ... privacy.

Remember, above all, rule 5: Get to know each other. Become friends. Become more. Who cares. Just do it.

Thursday brings calm after the busy storm of the ball. Rest, recuperate, and reflect; you all know what tomorrow brings.

Friday is investigation time once again. The investigation post will go live at 3 PM EST, 5/16.

Saturday is the day of your second real ritual. You may find the ritual post here at 12 PM EST, 5/17.

The Crypt itself is lit with flickering lights and deep shadows; eternally burning torches line the walls in their sconces. The pews before the altar are empty, except for one:

Pratibha is seated on the frontmost left pew, looking awake, if not well. She kicks a foot, lazily pointing at the evidence chest with her toes.

“Ritual two. Don’t refuse this time. You know the rules. Either the culprit is executed, or all of you die. Figure out who killed Snake.

“Got questions? Ask ‘em, just remember my ability to answer is limited.”

Welcome to your second trial! Characters may discuss, in free for all/threadjacking fashion, everything related to the trial and the death of the victim. They may ask questions of Pratibha, whose ability to respond will be somewhat limited. It is truly up to all of you to solve this murder and bring the perpetrator to justice.

The house is quiet again. It seems smug and satisfied, too--a marked change from the negativity all week. You feel normal again. Well, as normal as you can feel, once you realize why that dark influence might have dissipated.

Pratibha is once again in the foyer, sitting wanly on her evidence chest. She doesn't look refreshed by the lifting of the blot. If anything, she seems even less well. She raises her eyes tiredly.

"...What. Don't look at me. You know what to do."

It started with simple curiosity...
Zoe simply wanted to check out the new room, not quite sure what she might find. Little did she know the decently stocked library inside would hold so many hidden gems, even if the stories seemed a little... Off.

It was like a selection of works from AO4 had become books and found themselves trapped in the house too. Zoe couldn't help but read through them. And she wasn't alone...

[Maomao's death seems to bring Luis to a decision. That being, it's time to stop fucking around individually and start making a coordinated plan. Even with emotions running... Well, all sorts of directions, they need to all circle up and share what they've managed to learn so far.

It turns out, two of his roommates have come to a similar conclusion, and the third is just glad to have something useful to do.

With Yuri recruited to make tea, word begins to spread to meet in the dining room in the evening. Partly to give everyone time to deal with the day's death, and partly to give Leon S(wole) Kennedy the time to move enough seating into the dining room to fit everyone.

As the residents find their way to the dining room at the allotted time (with Leon and Lortel on sheepdog duty to round up stragglers), Luis is there with Yuri and Aqua, helping to set up the tea for everyone.]

MINGLE LOG | WEEK 1
Premise | Rooming | Full Nav

Greetings, house guests. You must be a little more familiar with how things work around here now. There is no escape.

One thing does seem to have changed: characters can now freely investigate the now unlocked Crypt.

On Sunday, nothing much at all happens. Better take the time to rest, recuperate, and decide your next steps. Maybe you have people you want to talk to after that … shit show? Now’s the time: unload those feelings.

Alternatively, with the pantry open with plenty of food available, why not wander into the kitchen for a snack and a chat with whoever is there?

(Don't forget to check out the post-trial afterparty!)

Come Monday, everyone will make up to a most unpleasant surprise: their motive for the week.

Unfortunately for those characters with questions about the motive, Pratibha is nowhere to be found afterwards. Additionally, all the profile entries for Leona, Phoenix, and Yoojin have changed. It’s a fairly clear indicator that they are dead. Enjoy this useful information!

On Tuesday, there are two noticeable changes. The first is that there is a new puzzle. The second thing? Pratibha’s presence. She's finally back. Why was she missing on Sunday and Monday? Why does she seem so … out of it? She’s all curled up in the laundry room this time, intermittently snoozing in the little nook off to one side.

On Wednesday, Pratibha is gone again. And so, unfortunately, is one of your own. What happened? Who is it? All subsequent headers, including Wednesday's, will be frozen until a Wednesday event can take place. We will announce to the playerbase once Wednesday's thread is live for you to investigate!

Thursday brings a very specific change: after 9 PM, no one get into, or out of, your rooms. Plan wisely. You may get stuck in the halls, which might be fine … except we know what happened last Thursday night.

Thursday also brings with it another new puzzle.

Friday is investigation time The investigation post will go live at 3 PM EST, 5/9.

Saturday is the day of your “first” real ritual. You may find the ritual post here at 12 PM EST, 5/10.
